Our Leptotes bicolor

We have had this Leptotes bicolor since 2000 and it had several flowers every spring. Recently it took off and became something else. This year we received a cultural award for it from the AOS.

Thanks to all of you.

The problem was to make the flowers last from the beginning of March to the next judging session in DC, which was on April 4. Normally the flowers last about 3 weeks but I needed to wait four weeks before I could take it for judging. So once all the flowers had opened I brought it down to our light cabinet in the basement which was still quite cool in March into April because of the record cold spring here at the East coast of the US (59 - 64 deg F). Other than that, I really recommend this orchid for anyone that likes mounted orchids. It is an easy one as long as it receives bright light without too much light.

Congratulations for the award and very beautiful display this is the first time I saw many flower in this species.

Last year I posted about our Leptotes bicolor with 56 flowers. It was awarded then. This year it has at least 75 flowers. I bought it in 2000 so it is our oldest plant right now. I hope you will all like it as much as I do!
