    Question Brassavola Glauca culture

    Hi everyone!

    I'm thinking about mounting my B. Glauca teen seedling. Does anyone have experience with this particular plant? I've read that it requires more sun than a cattleya to induce blooming, is this true?

    The usual recommendation for Rhyncholaelia glauca is for 3000-4000 footcandles of light, which is a brighter than typical Catt hybrids, but about the same as C. intermedia so not really out of the Cattleya range. You need to get any plant used to light that bright gradually, which means over the course of a year, not days or weeks. It can certainly be grown mounted with the right care and conditions, but it isn't one of those plants that really demand it. It seems to do well in a basket, which provides for perfect drainage and easy hanging, but is easier to manage than mounting is some cases.

    Thanks Paph Man! I'm really into mounting lately. Just getting bored with so many pots I guess...lol. Plus the mounts just look so cool and I can hang them wherever... decisions decisions
