OK here are a couple of primary hybrids taken a few years back. They're not that commonly seen but I'm sure you all will figure them out in short order.
Out of simplicity I will entertain guesses here, and acknowledge correct and incorrect parents.

Okay - wild guesses:
Top Plant : Concolor x Kolopakingii
Bottom Plant: Houghtoniae Candor
well it looks like the cat is out of the bag, I got Hoa and Diane correctly guessing Conkoloco (concolor x kolopakingii) for the first one! nice job! the rich yellow color really came through from the concolor and the lack of a huge inflated pouch rules out armeniacum as the source. the downswept petals also point towards something other than rothschildianum as the other parent.
as for the second one Hoa guessed roth as a parent and Diane guesses Houghtoniae (roth x haynaldianum). roth is indeed one of the parents but the other one is not haynaldianum!
Is it Susan Booth???
Second guess, Lady Isabel?
Pouch seems to dark for St. Swithin....
so both Hoa and Diane guessed Susan Booth (roths x praestans), a very good guess since we obviously have coryo on both sides. However it is not Susan Booth, with clues in the petal stance and the bold striping of the dorsal (most Susan Booth have thinner dorsal striping and the petals, while often downswept, are usually straight, and with more solid mahogany coloration).
Lady Isabel is also a good guess but it is not the answer--most Lady Isabel will have a white dorsal background and possibly some broken stripes from the stonei, and also distinctive petal maculations from the stonei (but the petal stance on this mystery paph are VERY similar to that of Lady Isabel). stonei also helps turn the pouch a more reddish mahogany color.
And the pouch is too dark for Saint Swithin. the dorsal of SS is also decidedly white, and again, the petals may be downswept but usually straight. and of course the yellow pouch.
keep at it, you're both getting very close!
My first instinct was PEOY, but the petals dont seem long enough. I need a nap!!!
the colors are quite similar to PEOY but those petals are done growing. PEOY tends to have a longer (taller) dorsal from the sandy though, but the petal maculations are similar. keep trying, there aren't too many coryo species left!Originally Posted by Diane

It's Mem Day weekend - I was piping all morning (and I mean, all morning - starting at 9 and ending at 12:30)...this is the first warm weather we've had after the deluge of the past few weeks...so I was digging, planting and moving things in the postage stamp garden all afternoon and evening, and am only just relaxing into that Advil haze aided with some nice wine, soon to turn to scotch. (Only in that my ability to turn 'water into wine,' as it were, occurs to all of us at refill time!)
You guys blitzed through the first quiz, and now I'm on deadline to pick up the pieces of the second one??? Not nice! No fun.
I'm not even gonna tell you about my first time bloomers that ruptured open today! (I'm such a proud parent!) Well...ok, maybe I will. But not until I get over being left out on a Paph. quiz...
Let me laze in the blissfulness of the Advil, and perhaps some John Wayne war movie, and I'll be all over this early am tomorrow. In the meantime, if you have any inspired Paph epiphanies, please keep them to yourselves! Or at least PM Jason!
Julie
Okie, instead of asking more questions and posting the next guesses, we will wait for you! Hehehhehe!
Cheers. Hoa.
Gee - - I didn't know we weren't allowed to start without Julie.....
it couldn't be that someone just was waiting for Hoa and I to narrow down the field.... ehh???![]()
