A first flowering from seedling state. I have had it about 3 years. Originally it had tall thin canes. Then the canes produced masses of what I though were keikis, but they never produced roots. So I realised, it is branching canes. A little unusual, but not unique.
Then this year, flowers suddenly appeared on the oldest canes. They are supposed to arise apically - which means at the tips of the canes, in the leaf axils. The latter is correct, but not the former; I suspect this due to the canes carrying on growing for more than one season, due to inadequate rest. In fact , I think this winter just gone was the first time I had rested it properly.May be quite nice when better established and properly rested, with more flowers. They are about 3- 4cm across btw. Supposed to be very fragrant ; maybe it needs sunlight, or maybe they are not quite fully out yet, but the scent is elusive - or there again, maybe its my nose.
