Hello everyone,
I've recently returned home to Hong Kong from trips to Thailand and Vietnam. I have no prior experience with orchids but picked up a few plants. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of difficulty figuring out the specific species. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
These were from Vietnam. I happened to stop at a very large greenhouse with some amazing displays. The man working there spoke no english but I had a local guide who was translating some of what he was saying. I was told to let these dry out for a few days and then keep them over damp sphagnum, which is what I've been doing. He removed all of the leaves from these but said they should start growing new plants eventually. I think they may be dendrobium anosmum as our guide was helping me look them up after I left. I realize it may be hard to tell from just this photo but I just wanted to check that what I'm doing is right - indirect sunlight and keep the moss damp? I'm noticing some yellow tips on the ends of the canes, not sure if that's normal for a cutting like this.
This is from Thailand and I have no idea what species. It had very small delicate light purple flowers on a very thin spike but lost these shortly after transport. It looks like it may have another spike? coming from the top but I'm not sure. I currently have this in direct afternoon sun but am noticing some yellowing starting on one of the leaves.
Here's another shot, which you can see the yellowing leaf. The plant also looks a little weary on the bottom but I think I remember all of the other similar plants looking about the same.
Finally, this is also from Thailand and after looking online a bit I think it may be a dendrobium bigibbum. It had a few purple flowers that it just lost, which looked very similar. I have two of these and they're both potted in coconut husks. They've each had a few lower leaves yellow and come off but they both have some new keikis coming up.
Again, thanks for any assistance with plant ID and care. Once I know the species, I'm very happy to do more research - just want to make some adjustments to water/light if I need to in the meantime.
Jeff
