WEnt out to the greenhouse tonight. Pitch dark, so took a torch - one of these modern things powered by a battery of course and with half a dozen small LEDs to provide the light. I was amazed by the colour of the flowers.... so selected this one - the most amazing of all ( as it happens there was no true blue cattleya in flower. Brought it in, and illuminated it with the same torch ( switched the camera flash off).
The second pic is with the torch off, and the usual camera flash, which gives a pic of fairly true colour - still a good colour ( aren't purpurata wonderful ?) but not quite like the torch pics.
So, the moral of this story is that if you want wonderful coloured cattleyas, work by torchlight, and view by torchlight. Become nocturnal... ( joke)
