As you can see I have this orchid box that I have constructed

It is in my back yard in Maryland. The box faces SW and get some good exposure. The problem is that it gets cool at night and it has been so rainy and now humid that some of my plants are getting white mold. I think I have caught it soon enough. I am not worried about some of the plants they do not mind the moisture and they are not getting effected yet, but I want to clear up the problem. I hear of physan, peroxide, cinnamon, but I would like some straight advice to this prob. And is there a good outdoor fan that I can use maybe for the circulation of air, it is somewhat stagnent.
Otherwise I have another question about the light. How shaded should the box be. I have three shelves so I can fluxuate the shade for each shelf. I have a lot of dendrobiums and epidendrums, brassovollas, oncids, fewer cattleyas, and a leiliacatt., and others. What is a good 3 stage shading for example
top shelf 25%
middle 40% etc.

Hi Kevin,

The dends and catts will need lots more light. Maybe move them to the top shelf. Next would be the epides, brass, and oncids.

I would get a fan blowing on them if the air is really stagnent and humid. That will solve lots of problems.

First of all, cool set-up!

second, what is that made of? screen? or a plastic sheets?

In the warmer months, is it possible to just leave the door(?) open?

Also, similar but not quite... but close enough... is something that Wolf has as well... if he doesn't reply to this thread, maybe PM him with some Q's.

The cage is made of 1x3 wood with metal screen for shelves, i thought this would allow better circulation than anything solid. The mesh is the screen you use in window, I just doule layer or triple layer for more sun protection.

hey if you want to send me free orchids I would never turn them down. Actually i am getting a few new ones by friday all New Guinea latouria types. I love those with there curly sepals and crazy colors, the pretty psuedobulbs make for a nice branch mounted plant.

Germantown. The set up is still in need of some tweaks. I would really like to find an outdoor fan so that there is some air circulation.
