Virus or Fungus?

An online orchid-buddy of mine wanted a division of this Cymbidium. She passed on it, because we weren't sure if it has fungus or virus.

Anybody have any idea?

Not all the leaves look like this but a few do. The brown spots are not sunken.





If you can help, you can be first in line to trade for a backbulb division with nice new growth! Unless it's virus, in which case you can be first in line for some ashen burnt Cymbidium remains . . .

Sue, I had (and still have) a miniature cymbidium whose leaves looked exactly like that. It took a few years, but once those old growths lost their leaves, the new ones came up just fine. Plus, I've never seen any kind of viral infection pics that remotely resembled that. Fungus is my vote. I wouldn't say bacterial because it's not wet and sloppy enough....

Sure, I'll take a backbulb division! I haven't grown standard cyms in years, and the flowers on yours look really neat.

A year or two ago I got a backbulb of a massive yellow cym for my father. Via Ambarino 'Highland' FCC/AOS. I was told that *horse manure* was the ideal media for fast growth. Since I grow on windowsills, I passed. It likes s/h though, but it's still years and years away from blooming.

High light, cool/intermediate growers, but they'll take hotter conditions. It'd be good for your conditions, except that it's BIG.

Ohh, that is to bad. Maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled for a mini cym. Those aren't so huge.
