I have been growing orchids for less than a year. Most of my Orchids I have gotten from colleagues or friends for free. Most of those came with no tags. Others I have with tags. All together I have over 100 orchids in my outside shade house. My shade house is equiped with misters, a misting fan, filtered water. Although I love growing them, I am horrible with names and types and small variations of needs they have. I know my Phals of course. They do great. Most of them are mounted and are constantly blooming or growing. I have a couple Vandas which are in baskets with no medium. I have a couple Paphs. I also have Oncidiums, Dendrobiums, Cattleyas, and others. Most of the ones with bulbs I have a hard time telling apart, they mostly look the same to me. Those I always figure need much less water and I let them dry out before watering. They get put in a pure bark mixture. I am sure some of them have much different needs than others. Have any good ways of identifying just the basic type and needs? Also I have quite a few orchids that have abbreviations and names which don't say Cattleya or Phal or Dendrobium, or anything else I recognize. Any help would be appreciated.
