This is a selfing of charlesworthii. Please excuse the skewed appearance of the flower: It just traveled 1000 plus miles from Los Osos, California. Also not the most flattering angle. Best I could manage today. If it improves after getting the cramps out I will post another picture of it.

It was in bud when I first contacted the seller about it. He traveled, he got sick (again, and again!!!!) Finally got the details figured out and it arrived today.

I am still trying to find out more about the parentage but I am not sure if I ever will. It has 5 growths on it: two PB, the one in bloom and two unbloomed growths.

Oh, and there was a nice surprise in the box too. More on that later.

I have several others (well, a lot actually) coming from other sources as well.

This is beautiful. I guess it is a hybrid? A hybrid name should have the first letter in Capital, so people won't get confused.

No, it is not a hybrid. It is a species, that is one reason I got it. This is charlesworthii crossed to itself. The breeder saw traits that he liked in the flower and polinated it with its own pollen, hense the selfing (or x self) designation. I am trying to find out if there is a varietal name and any awards is what I meant about finding out more about the parentage.

I am finding that species have the color and shape variations to hold my interest and there is some deep seated attraction to them I am finding very difficult to resist.

No, it was not a t....t, I mean a kitten, that was the surprise. We tried to help Renee's sister by taking a puppy from her and that lasted less than 24 hours. A kitten (unless it was a tiger kitten!!!) would not even be considered.
