I got home a bit early today and took a look in the green house and found an Encyclia in bloom. This is Encyclia cordigera (var semi-alba). I like its shape. Enjoy!!

very nice !!! I have an alba and a normal color. I don't have a semi alba. Was this once considered a separate species? randii?
Maybe Pat can answer your question. We got this one last year or the year before at our society's orchid auction. I believe this is the first time for us to bloom it. I did a quick Internet search and found another that looks very similar to ours that is called Encyclia cordigera var randii so I suspect a naming issue somewhere along the line is the cause for this confusion.

Interesting flower shape, looks like someone gave it a perm while you were out.
Very nice.
The naming of Encyclia's really seems to be messed up , have been hunting for E. prismatocarpa & it seems there is about a dozen synonyms for the plant , which makes it near impossible to be sure of buying the correct plant.
