Vanda Spike question

I have another question for all you experienced Vanda growers. I bought this plant over a month ago...in spike....it's taking forever to see the little green bud raise it's head, only there is also a brown one on the other side that seems to be growing too? So is that normal? I also see two other little brown things that may also look like the bigger brown spike....I will enclose the best pic. my little digital took of the things.

Hope someone knows this one. Would multiple flower spikes slow things down?

Root - bottom right of photo
On the left it appears to be an old spike that was cut off very close.

Vandas are picky and may abort a spike if moved from thier growing enviroment. They are forgiving though and will produce another spike just be patient

Sorry...you are both going to be suprised when i post the new picture in a couple days....those brown things are growing and getting taller. As soon as I can get a good picture of them I will post it so you can see....never seen brown flower spikes before myself, but then I AM a newbie still. Geesh, guess you learn as you go, eh?

That is wonderful news! It if fine with me to be wrong. That is why pencils have erasers. Congratulations on the additional spike if that is what it turns out to be. Sometimes ariel roots grow from these locations too.

Bruce is right - top bottom is a root and top right is a new spike. Both my Ascocenda and my Vasco are putting out new roots at the moment. It's a good thing - means they are happy and are in active growth rather than sulking and going dormant.
