MY new plants brought visitors ( quarantine ward!) What is safe for me to use to kill thae please?, not being a buddhist! Judi
Hi Judi
I was recommended Bayer Provado Ultimate Bug Killer by a local (ish) nursery - and this is what I have used on my fuchsias and orchids indoors. It is a synthetic insecticide which is apparently safe to use on edible plants too. There is advice about it on the RHS website if you search.
Much as I would like to be able to use some of the products I have seen recommended on here - i haven't seen things like Neem oil available. You can use soapy water and rub them off, if you would prefer a lass insecticide way of dealing with the problem.
I don't know if you can get Safer's Soap, but it is basically the same thing as dish soap, just it has a de-foamer so it can be sprayed on without suds.
Cheers,

Neem oil is my product of choice for aphids. Full strength right out of the bottle..massage a little between your fingertips and go to town. Afterwards, rinse and put the plant in a bit more shade for a few days.
Strong, soapy water will work too. I think the soap dissolves the aphid carapace (right word?)?
...how about Lady Bugs?![]()

EDIT: OH! NOT Buddhist!
