Firstly, really sorry about the all the photos!
So, here are a couple of Dendrobiums that are flowering at the moment and I thought I'd share them with you.
1. Dockrillia linguiformis - formerly Dendrobium linguiforme. The genus of terete leaved Australian & Papua New Guinean species have been reclassified to the genus Dockrillia. The common name for this species is the "tongue orchid" because the leaves are flattened and shaped like tongues.
Unfortunately, I was a bit slack this year and did not manage to take more photos of the other Dockrillias I have including, Dockrillia schoenina, Dockrillia striolata, and a couple of others.
2. Dendrobium Harold Hirsch - the only hybrid I manage to capture on camera this year. This is it's first flowering.
3. Dendrobium kingianum 'Black Snake' "Best" x 'Ben' - I can't get a very good picture of this flower because of the colour. It really is so dark!
4. Dendrobium kingianum 'Red Devil' x 'Red Ink' - another hard to photograph flower because of the colour. It is actually a lot darker than the photo suggests. This clone is probably a better shape than the one above but no need to cull either one... yet...
5. Dendrobium kingianum 'alba' - unlike albinos from other orchid species, this one is actually really easy to grow - weedlike even.
6. Dendrobium kingianum 'Fluro King' x 'Chew Bacca' - the first flowering of this species outcross and I am chuffed. I can't remember what they call this colouration but it's not that rare.
Well, that's all folks. Thanks for looking. Oh, these are all very easy to grow plants. My pants are subjected to temperatures from 4 celsius to 45 celsius. A fair amount of light is required to get them blooming so sunlight except for the hot middle of the day sun, and even then they are just shaded by the trees.
Cheers
P.o.P.
