Bud formation question

Bought this Blc. Wendy Tanaka 'Volcano Queen' x Lc. Irene Finney 'Spring Beauty' in bloom in 2005. The 2 sheaths pictured below appeared in the summer of 2007. As you can see they appear to be sterile sheaths. My question is: In order for it to set it's buds would that have to have happened in the winter of 06/07 before the sheaths appeared or is it happening now. Do you think there is any chance that a bud will appear from these sheaths or should I give up looking for it????

Hi Ischel,

Sometimes it takes a long time for buds to develop. The sheaths remain this way for what seems like an eternity. Sometimes, as you have suggested, they do nothing and never produce buds. It is really hard to tell what they are going to do at this point. If they are not going to produce buds, then they will dry up--eventually. Patience my friend. It is the lesson that these plants teach us - over and over.

Some Catts bloom from dried sheaths as well, but BD is correct, you never can tell. I just make sure that I have their culture down and what will be will be.

I have a couple of catts that put out sheaths like that - they stay green forever but never bloom... then sometimes one will surprise me and out pops a bud.
