Withering jewel orchids

I recently acquired some seedlings of Anoectochilus roxburghii and Ludisia Discolor. I checked out the guidelines for best culture: not too bright, damp but not wet, humid. So I put them in my bathroom (with skylight) and mist them every now and then.

However, they are not doing very well. The seem to wither, losing leaves (yellow) and shrivelling, the stems hanging down.

What could be the problem?

Naturally Ludisia discolour is a creeper, or if in a pot, a cascader. I am thinking perhaps it is a case of air movement. They like fresh air, and air in a bathroom can get quite stagnant at times. However, i cant help you with the Anoectochilus.....

A picture will help. Anoectochilus is much more sensitive to environmental conditions than Ludisia.

I dipped them yesterday, and the Ludisia seems to be doing better. The Anoectochilus stays 'fragile'. How can I post pix here? They are not on a webpage...

Make sure they are smaller than 700 x 700 as well, modify this using windows office picture manager

Thanks for the suggestion. Would that be a closed dome? I thought they would also need some circulation? Do you have a picture?

And this is an unknown jewel orchid. Would anyone know which one??



BTW: they are all set in sphagnum, and I keep them damp (they are still a bit moist now due to yesterday's dipping). Under the inside pot there are clay balls and water - which does not reach the inside pot - to provide more humidity.

They both look like Ludisia to me. And these a terrestrial-put them in some soil. If they were epiphytes, then i would say spag was fine. That may be the first thing that is causing them to wilt.

I agree with Jordan. I grow beautiful Ludisia Specimen Pots in a mixture of Potting Mix mixed with Aliflor and charcoal to give good drainage. They do very well. My pots are at ground level under the Phal. benches.
