Psychopsis Butterfly - bud

This psychopsis originally had a very tall spike but the plant was noticeably wilting.
So I decided to cut the spike and this growing season it is sprouting a new pseudobulb and several new roots.

I also noticed that there are a couple of buds swelling on the remnant of the spike.

Does anyone know if psychopsis spikes branch out and continue to bloom? or do they produce keikis from old spikes?

Here's the close up of the highest bud (below the cut).
Notice that the portion above the node is beginning to dry up, consistent with an expiring spike. But the portion below the node is still alive and healthy.

Cutting back a psychopsis spike will almost always cause it to branch out. Thats a good sign the plant is healthy and happy after it's wilting period.
