The label is plastic and old - quite brittle, and broken. The half which remains says "Epidendrum ( now Encyclia of course) vitallinum x..... but I can't remember,or don't know what the other parent was. Any ideas ?
It is in a 6 or 7 inch pot, and the flowers are a bit over 2 inch spread.
Now vitallinum has bulbs of a quite different shape to these - more pear-shaped or conical, and only half the height of these too. The foliage here is also a bit stiffer , more rigid , and the flower shape has got perhaps a bit more starry, less full ( than on the best vitallinums) as well as being darker. All of which may give a clue as to the other parent. I have Withners books and will have to spend an evening swotting them up, but thought that some of our brilliant and knowledgable members might be able to say that they have it too, and its called- whatever.
At the moment I refer to it as "Hit Parade" - because it has 77 buds and flowers ( 77 trombones - remember ? )
