New Phal. Making sure I treat this one right.

So, after my first orchid and it's untimely death, I want to make sure this one is going to grow up to live a happy, healthy life.
I noticed it only had one small hole at the bottom to drain, so I cut some more holes in the bottom and a couple on the sides to make sure it has drainage. It doesn't seem too tightly packed to me, but can anyone give me an opinion? Did I do it right?

Full view. As of right now it seems fine in the decorative pot. If I spot issues, I'll remove it and just put it on a platter with only the plastic pot.

Actually no need to cut or make another hole the pot already design like that and you need to spray the water every weekly depending on your atmosphere the moment you made a slits then the evaporation getting faster the frequency to spray water very fast.Anyway great idea good for your experience keep going always learn from mistake.

It's usually quite humid here in the summer and damp in the winter. I'm not fearing it drying out. I have a spray bottle for another type of plant I have. I can just check my orchid daily or every other day to see if it needs a few sprays while I mist the needles on the other. Also, the size of the one and only hole in the bottom of the pot was about the size of the top of an average pen (not the cap, the other end) and it laid flat on the bottom of the decorative pot.

Personally I would not keep it in the decorative pot, because it appears it is growing in moss. The slits you made on the sides will give great aeration. You should not have to water the plant very often. stick your finger into the moss and see if it is damp, but not wet.
That is a lovely orchid, do you know the name?

No Ma'am, I do not know the name. It was just the most beautiful one they had there.
May I ask, why should I not keep it in the decorative pot with moss?

The moss hold a lot of moisture and your roots need lots of air. Having the plant in the closed pot will not allow air circulation to the roots, and you may soon have a serious case of root rot. Although I think the silver pot is lovely.
