spotted phal leaf

What could these be? I'm not leaning towards sun damage, but you never know. These spots are indented into the leaf (does that make sense?) I've had it for 8 days, and it is a phal equestris.
Is it a fungus? Bacterial infection?

I don't know what it is, but I've seen them before. I suspect it's some fungal thing, but it does seem to be completely harmless. If it spreads, then get back to us!

If you're in a GH, spray away! I'm on the windowsill (as is my mother, who is the phalnut), so we don't spray unless it's absolutely necessary. And then we use some bogus oil concoction that probably serves as a massage & oil rub for all those @^$^ buggers.

I'm not so sure it's fungus. Phals tend to be susceptible to bacterial leaf spot, which produces those sunken lesions.

So do you think I should cut the spots out? I hate to take off the entire leaf. What would you spray with? I green house I go to uses Lysol spray. He said he had some sort of expert on something or other at the green house and he said it had the same chemical makeup as the more expensive antibacteral spray they used.

Lisa, you can cut around those spots in the good flesh with a sharp razor blade. Then, apply your fungicide / disease control stuff to the cut areas. No need to remove the whole leaf. 'Course, it's going to look a little swiss cheesy, but.....

Hi Lisa,

Those spots are so far on the outside I think you should just trim them off. And, since that is the bottom leaf, it will be the first to drop as the plant growes. Just be sure to use a clean blade and then get rid of the blade or clean it before using on another plant.

I personally wouldn't cut them off unless they show signs of spreading. Or if you really hate the way they look. I've seen spots like that before on my mom's phals. Now, I don't know if those are the same thing, or that they always stay confined to those areas, but the spots on her phals have never spread. And the leaves remain intact.

Lysol is good, if you can stand the smell of it. I avoid it because it reminds me of public restrooms. You can also dab the spots with a Q-tip soaked in Listerine. I don't think I would cut unless the spots were spreading. Good luck with it.
