Default Yay! I bloomed a Phal.

I am a notorious phal killer. My son gave me this plant a couple of years ago for mother's day. It just about died under my culture. I was desperate to save the gift from my boy. I mounted it on fern fiber and it finally took off. It was turned away from me in the shadehouse. I was moving plants and it swung around and there was the spike There is a tag of the cross but it is too long to remember.
On a side note: I've bought several hot growing species seedlings. I've mounted them and keeping fingers crossed they haven't died, as of yet.

Thanks Zain. I moved the phals to fern fiber and placed them all with my gesneriads. They have been suffering in vanda light and culture. Now if the seedlings will grow and flourish, I will be happy.

Beautiful phal. Cathy...I'm happy that you saved it, especially since your Son gave it to you! Maybe I'll try a tree fern plaque for a phal, since I do have an extra one. Thanks for the idea...Betty

Good job! Certainly not trivial to grow mounted phals. Beautiful colors.

That's a beautiful phal.. There's just something special about seeing a beautiful orchid mounted like that. It looks so natural and healthy. That's a great photograph also. Good job of growing and photographing.

Nice growing, Cathy! Don't you just love it when an orchid surprises you with a spike like this!! The bloom turned out to be beautiful - cool pattern/markings.

    cheers,
